Accepting nominations for June’s Titanium Spork Award

Lisa Suriano from Veggiecation received the Titanium Spork Award for May. She is a really sweet person and I love what she is doing. Thanks for voting!

Now I want to know who you want to see win for June! Please nominate your favorite school food reformer in the comments.

  1. I'm a big fan of Chef Ann Cooper but please check out my school.
My name is Laura DeSantis the Nutrition Director/ Chef at the Marblehead Community Charter Public School. We are a charter school doing all the right things. We cook everything from scratch and use food to educate our students. We do this by teaching cooking enrichment class, exposing them to fresh fruits and veggies and doing education buffets such as Chinese New Year and A taste of Provence (w/ the French class). In the 2 years since being in charge I have never served chicken fingers or nuggets and now the kids have stopped asking.
We also have a big garden on our school property run by teachers, students and myself. We try and grow the variety of things we use. We have several local farms that delivery to us also.

We try to be as green as possible and actually use real silverware and plates.

I feel like I'm gushing a bit but I'm very proud of the effort and support the school has put into creating healthy habits and proper nutrition. Checkout our website for more info. http://www.marbleheadcharter.com/foodservice
